The Art of Relaxation

I recently put on a painting event for the the residence hall I live in on campus. With the end of the semester quickly approaching, stress levels amongst students have been high, and it seemed like everyone needed a break from reality. That in mind, I gathered some art supplies and encouraged my peers to paint away. The idea was to provide an opportunity to unwind and focus on something other than assignments and exams, while creating something beautiful.

Not only was the turn out larger than I anticipated, but the reaction I got for throwing the program was amazing as well. What started at 6pm and was only expected to last a couple of hours, ran until 3 in the morning. Several students created multiple pieces, and many approached me stating that painting was therapeutic and much needed. It felt great to know that an idea of mine was so well received and helpful to more than just me.
